Indian Kings Proud Amid Poverty
These five ordinary-looking gentlemen above are "kings" who will not leave their subjects. Legally privy purses were abolished by the federal government in 1971; however these kings and a few courtiers linger on as pensioned dependents of the state government of Gujarat.
But the lingering question remains: When does a king cease to a king? When he decides so, or when everybody else decides so? Who decides?
Thank God we have a democratically elected parliament to decorously discuss, debate and legislate these thorny issues.
